My personal journey to become an holistic therapist began in 2004 when I was diagnosed with a bulging disc in my lower back. I was in so much pain that I could barely stand, let alone walk. Keen to avoid surgery I began to search for an alternative and, after trying several therapies, I found Bowen which quite simply changed my life and it has continued to do so. I have now completed my journey as an holistic therapist by offering Aromatherapy Massage and Reflexology too.
I trained with UK instructors affiliated to the Bowtech Training Academy Australia, (www.bowtech.com) and qualified in November 2018. As part of my training I completed an Anatomy and Physiology Diploma and an Emergency First Aid at Work course. I also hold full professional liability insurance cover. I am a member of the Bowen association UK (www.bowenassociation.co.uk) the professional association for Bowen Technique Practitioners and in order to maintain my membership with them, I am required to undertake 16 hours of 'Continuous Professional Development' per year.
Bowen is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia. Sometimes called the homeopathy of bodywork, it utilizes subtle inputs to the body (known as moves), stimulating the body to heal itself.
There is no situation when Bowen Technique cannot be used safely. The therapy is holistic, treating the whole body, with the body deciding what it will & won't address.
The Bowen Technique is complementary, it is not intended as a substitute for any conventional medical treatment and we always advise clients to continue to seek the advice of their GP.
Bowen Technique is a gentle form of bodywork which involves precise moves on the superficial fascia that encourage your body to release the state of tension that has occurred and to reset and heal itself. Fascia is the connective tissue that envelopes our muscles, nerves, organs, bones and blood and is a major player in postural alignment and flexibility. The fascia is in danger of stiffening or contracting in various ways when we suffer a trauma, an injury or prolonged poor posture.
